Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Class Logistics
Do I need to bring any equipment?
It depends on the program:
- WAVES: Just bring yourself, swimmers (if required), a drink bottle, and a towel.
- StediStrong: Bring a drink bottle and towel if you sweat.
- You also need a resistance band and a set or two of dumbbells.
- Those attending Bayside, Georges River and Sutherland LGA do not need to bring equipment.
- Yoga: We recommend a yoga mat, yoga block, stretch band, and a drink bottle.
- Zumba: Bring a drink bottle.
What should I wear?
- Comfortable, flexible clothing suitable for exercise.
Supportive, enclosed, no slippery footwear (except Yoga, where barefoot or socks may be suitable).
- WAVES– swimmers that you are comfortable with.
How early should I arrive?
Arrive 5–10 minutes early to find the centre, find parking and get settled.
Please note: we are usually not allowed into the centre until the scheduled class start time, so plan to wait outside or in a designated area until entry is permitted.
Does my class go for a full 60 mins?
Depending on the service you have signed up for, your class will generally include set up and pack up time as the venues are booked for the hour or less (if yoga/zumba/waves):
StediStrong: Approx 50 mins with 5 mins set up, pack down either side.
StediStrong online: 50 mins
Waves, Yoga and Zumba: 45 mins
Are classes held in all weather conditions?
Classes are usually held rain or shine, unless the weather is unsafe (extreme heat).
Is there parking or public transport nearby?
- Check your local venue details; most community centers have on-site or street parking or are near public transport.
- Bowen Library:
- Small parking area underneath the library
- Additional car park across the road
- Street parking available
- Randwick Community Centre:
- On-site car park at the venue
- Kensington Park Community Centre:
- On-site car park (instructor must let you in, so please do not arrive too early)
- Street parking recommended if arriving early
- Kooloora Community Centre:
- On-site car park
- Street parking also available
- Des Renford Leisure Centre:
- On-site car park
- Street parking available
Do I need to pay to enter the pool for the WAVES program?
Yes. There is a separate pool entry fee charged by the council. This fee is not included in your program enrolment and must be paid directly to the pool on the day of your class.
What if my venue is unavailable (school holidays, maintenance, closure etc)?
- StediStrong: class will move online.
- WAVES: session may be forfeited or moved depending on circumstances.
- Yoga/Zumba: session may be moved or forfeited depending on circumstances.
General Program Information
Are classes held on public holidays?
No classes are held on public holidays.
Do we get anything to make up for missed public holiday sessions?
Every member who signs up with Strive Motion has Access to monthly webinars
StediStrong (+Online) memberships include:
- A home exercise program
- An online video if your class falls on a public holiday, or you miss a session
Why don’t Yoga, Zumba or WAVES get additional resources?
These programs already have higher running costs.
To keep pricing simple and affordable, all program fees are kept the same, and additional resources are not included.
You do receive monthly webinars.
Is it common for other fitness services to still charge for public holidays?
Yes. It is very common for gyms, daycares, and group fitness services to not run on public holidays, while fees remain the same.
This is because fees cover term costs, not “per-class” costs.
Why can’t the cost be adjusted per class?
- Fees cannot be adjusted per class because the program cost covers more than the individual sessions.
Fees contribute to:
- Booking and scheduling platforms
- Accounting and other software subscriptions
- Administrative staff
- Equipment (at some locations)
- Venue hire and general overheads
- Marketing
- And other operational costs required to run the program
These costs remain fixed regardless of public holidays.
Why don’t I get a refund if I miss a session or if the class falls on a public holiday?
- Our program fees are calculated per term or per year, not per individual class.
This covers:
-
- Venue hire
-
- Instructor wages
-
- Admin and booking systems
-
- Equipment and program resources
-
- Offering refunds or make-up classes would create additional costs that make it difficult to keep our programs affordable.
We aim to provide one of the most affordable community exercise programs while maintaining quality for all participants.
Are you still providing 50% discount for second and third class?
-
Discounts are now provided through 12-month enrolments, rather than per additional weekly class.
-
Keep programs affordable
-
Maintain consistent, high-quality delivery
-
Pay instructors and cover all program overheads
-
Ensure the long-term sustainability of the program for the whole community
Make-Up Classes & Missed Sessions
Are make-up classes available?
- No. Due to the costs and logistics involved in organising make-up sessions, all missed sessions are forfeited.
- However, StediStrong includes a 30-minute on-demand class that you can complete if you miss a session or if your class falls on a public holiday.
- We are committed to keeping our classes as affordable as possible. Adding the logistics and costs of make-up sessions would increase program fees for all members, and we are trying to avoid this. Coordinating make-up classes also requires additional administration, staffing, and management of class limits, which is why we are unable to offer them.
Why don’t Zumba, Yoga, and WAVES include an on-demand class?
These programs have higher operating costs, and to keep participant fees the same, on-demand videos are not included.
Memberships, Fees & Cancellations
What happens if I join partway through a term?
- For subscription/automatic memberships:
No matter when you join, your membership period is deemed to have started at the beginning of the current term. This ensures consistency across all contract types.
- For manual sign-ups (phone bookings only):
If you join from Week 4 onwards, we can offer a pro-rata rate for the remainder of the term (via phone call only).
We cannot offer a pro-rata rate if you book online.
If joining before Week 4, they will need to pay for the full term.
For pro-rate bookings, you would not be signing up to an auto-renewal contract, just for the current term.
How do I sign up for a yearly membership or auto-renew per term if I want to join mid-term?
- If you join partway through a term, the online system won’t allow you to start a yearly or auto-renew membership at a discounted rate for the remaining weeks.
Recommended process:
- If you are signing up from week 4 (mid- term), you can sign up manually over the phone for the current term only (e.g. join in Week 5 → manual payment for remaining weeks/pro-rata amount).
- Immediately after this (while on the phone), sign up for the next term on the appropriate contracted auto-renew membership, which will begin automatically at the start of the following term.
- You will need to be signing up for the same class if signing up from Week 5, otherwise will need to wait until Week 7 for new members.
What is the cancellation policy?
- You cannot cancel your current term registration. Once paid, you have signed up for the term.
- Direct Debit: You must email admin (admin@strivemotion.com.au) no later than Week 3 of your current term to cancel the following term.
- Annual subscription/contract: You must notify Strive Motion before Week 3 of your final term.
-
- You cannot cancel prior to the 12 months being over (5 consecutive terms for all programs, excluding Waves—4 consecutive terms).
Are refunds available?
No. Refunds are not available for:
-
Change of mind
-
Illness or injury
-
Misadventure
-
Holidays
-
Unavailable venue or instructor
This is because your enrolment secures a position in the class, meaning that spot cannot be offered to someone else once booked. Our classes are already heavily discounted, and these policies help us maintain low and affordable pricing for all participants.
Do terms have to be taken consecutively?
- Yes if you wish to keep your position in your class.
- Annual memberships cover a set number of consecutive terms and cannot be paused, skipped, or swapped.
- If you are on a direct debit (per-term) membership, you may request to pause your payments; however, your class spot cannot be held during the pause, and you may lose your place in the program.
Can I use my bank account (BSB & account number) instead of my credit card for auto-payments?
Yes, you can use your BSB and account number, however, you can only switch from credit card to bank account after your first payment has been processed.
This limitation is set by our booking system, and unfortunately we do not have control over this restriction.
Why am I paying a processing fee?
Online Exercise / Home Exercise Program (HEP)
When will I receive the link to join the online class?
You will receive the online class link 60 minutes before your scheduled class time.
What equipment do I need for online or at-home sessions?
- You can use everyday household items, such as:
- A set of dumbbells or drink bottles or cans (weights)
- A resistance band — If you do not have one, still do the exercise and focus on squeezing the muscles. You may also use weights instead.
- A stable chair
- A drink bottle
- A computer or iPad ideally (if using online/on demand)
Can I use a mobile phone to participate?
Yes, you most certainly can! However, depending on your device, it may be harder to clearly see the instructor’s demonstrations. A tablet or computer is recommended for the best experience.
What should I do if I am doing an online or on-demand class to increase safety?
For your safety:
- Let someone know before and after your class
- Ensure your space is clear
- Wear supportive footwear
- Keep a stable chair nearby
- Have water within reach
- Stop if you feel unwell
- Have someone nearby if possible
- Check with a health professional if you have new injuries or health changes
- Our classes are designed to be safe, but when exercising at home, we can’t supervise you directly, so these steps help ensure you stay safe and confident.
